The Canadian dollar (CAD) is the official currency of Canada, issued by the Bank of Canada. Iranian demand for it is driven above all by emigration: Canada hosts one of the largest Iranian communities abroad — especially in Toronto and Vancouver — and families need it for students, proof-of-funds requirements and settlement costs.
Its Toman price reflects two things: the free-market US dollar and the global CAD/USD rate, which has mostly sat between 0.70 and 0.75 in recent years. That is why it always trades a notch below the US dollar and moves in the same direction.
All notes issued today are polymer: 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollars. Only a handful of long-discontinued denominations (such as the $1, $2 and $1,000) ceased to be legal tender in January 2021; older paper versions of today's denominations remain legal tender in Canada — but Iranian exchange shops in practice accept only polymer notes, so make sure the notes you receive are polymer.
